In the Galleries

ROY G BIV
995 N High St

ROY G BIV Gallery presents Carol Boram-Hays and Andrew McCauley. Boram-Hays’ compelling yet toxic sculptures explore our conflicted relationship with industralization. McCauley’s scorched paintings portray the atrophy and memory loss caused by multiple sclerosis. There will be an opening reception on Saturday, November 1, from 7pm-10pm and an artists’ talk on Saturday, November 22 at 2:30pm.

Lumos Gallery
937 N High St

Lumos Columbus is inviting you to their Tech or Treat Halloween party! On November 1, Lumos will be celebrating with (free!) 3-D printed masks; science, tech, and art based costumes; and a fun costume contest with a funky 3-D printed trophy! The categories for the contest will be “Most Original,” and first and second place slots for “Best Costume.” There will be light refreshments (if you dare eat them…), and, if your costume just needs that extra “umph,” we’ll have plenty of masks and accessories to bring it all together.

While you’re enjoying the festivities, be sure to check out all the wonderful work by our featured artists: Sophie Kahn, Brian Yetzer, and Kristy Balliet; as well as their engineering teams: Paint Binumbers and Lizzypop Electronics.
Brandt-Roberts Galleries
642 N High St

Brandt-Roberts Galleries is featuring Curt Butler: Echoes of Placethroughout the month of November. There will be an artist’s reception on Sunday, November 9 from 1pm-3pm. The exhibit will run from November 7 to November 30.

Curt Butler’s vibrant landscape and urban scenes depict a recollection of a place rather than a literal interpretation of a distinct locale. Capturing both recognizable scenes of Columbus as well as undiscovered settings, Butler’s luminescent paintings function as a memory on canvas. Butler works with the delicate medium of encaustic, a melted beeswax, fusing it with oil paint and then building up layers of color that resonate with a subtle waxy sheen. Butler often scratches into the painting’s surface, revealing the layered history of its creation and contributing to the overall sense of memory in the painting’s final composition.
