While the weather may not be the most appealing for a romp outside, these February exhibitions will surely to make up for the chilly temperatures. With frothy hot chocolates, coffee, and hot drinks at many of the stops along High Street, viewing what’s new in the Columbus art scene won’t leave you out in the cold.

GALLERY EXHIBITIONS

Sherrie Gallerie

This month at Sherrie Gallerie, Laine Bachman in the exhibition The Nature of Things infuses the world she creates with archetypal imagery, whimsical themes and decorative motifs. Working in watercolor and acrylics, her paintings are full of creatures and beings that are all part of the larger story behind her work. This collection is more focused and refined, with a delicate and intriguing narrative that is both creative and entertaining.

 

 

Sharon Weiss Gallery
20 E. Lincoln St

This month, Sharon Weiss Gallery will introduce a new collection of original oil works on paper by Columbus artist Steven S. Walker. This collection of oil paintings highlights the landscape on one of arts oldest supports, paper. The show will run from February 6-28.

 

Pizzuti Collection
632 N. Park St

The Pizzuti Collection debuts two new exhibitions on February 7, Campana Brothers: Brazilian Design Now and Tomory Dodge. These exhibitions feature the exuberant paintings, collages, prints and watercolors of Los Angeles based artist Tomory Dodge, and Columbus’ first glimpse of the fun, fresh designs of Fernando and Humberto Campana.

During February, Studios On High Gallery features jewelry artists Carole Bucklew and Mikelle Hickman-Romine for Precious Love, an exhibition during February 1-28, 2015. Metalsmith Carole uses precious metals and semi-precious stones in her contemporary jewelry. Mikelle’s work is made with hand-sewn glass seed beads and gems in organic shapes.

In the lobby of the Hilton, see artist Char Normanʼs work in the exploration of natural forms. She uses pods and organic shapes encased in weaving and extensively preserved, to comment on birth and death, the shapes representation both pod and reliquary. She often incorporates handmade paper, providing a new life and image for the form. The exhibition is open until February 15.

 

 

 

 

Wexner Center for the Arts

Friday, February 7, get ready for Gallery Hop by joining the Wexner Center for the Arts in celebrating the opening of its newest exhibitions: Fiber: Sculpture 1960–present and Hassan Hajjaj: My Rock Stars Experimental, Volume I. Feb 25–March 1 at the Wexner Center, this celebration of recently restored classic films and talks by notable industry experts showcases the work being done to preserve cinematic treasures.
