On the first Saturday of each month, thousands of visitors converge on High Street in the Short North Arts District for Gallery Hop. Though many shops and galleries are open earlier, Gallery Hop officially starts at 4:00pm and runs to 10:00pm, with restaurants and bars staying open considerably later. With dozens of galleries and non-traditional exhibit spaces, it’s Columbus’ favorite night of the month to celebrate art. EXHIBITIONS

 

Brandt-Roberts Galleries
Brandt-Roberts Galleries will present new work by Columbus-based artist Kendric Tonn. The featured work is a series of classical still-life paintings with subject matter that follows the traditional color wheel, with a figurative centerpiece.

 

 

 

 

Lindsay Gallery
Lindsay Gallery
will continue to feature paintings and drawings from late Columbus artist William L. Hawkins. Hawkins was raised on a farm in Kentucky and learned to draw by copying illustrations from horse auction announcements and calendars. In 1916 he moved to Columbus, where he painted the cityscapes and fantastic animals for which he is best known. Hawkins’ work is in museums and major collections all over the world.

 

 

 

Marcia Evans Gallery
Marcia Evans Gallery will feature abstract artists Tommaso Ciaffoncini, Barbara Mink, Jesse Mireles, and Annette Poitau in Summer Show of Abstracts III, opening Friday, June 1. The show will run through thru August 28.

will present End Of An Era, featuring paintings by Michael Secrest and Paul Volker, copper sculptures by Elijah Secrest, and jewelry by Maria Galloway. Refreshments will be served.

 

 

 

 

 

Sean Christopher Gallery Ohio
Sean Christopher Gallery Ohio will feature Elaine Buss’ much anticipated and very ambitious four-room site specific installation, Excavate. An opening reception will be held on June 2 during Gallery Hop from 6:00pm – 10:00pm. Admission is free. This mixed media work will be on display through June 30.

 

 

 

 

Sherrie Gallerie
Sherrie Gallerie will present Thomas Arlen Wagner’s exhibit A Short North Collection, a pop-up exhibition at 24 E Lincoln. Wagner has been collecting art for nearly 35 years, since the first-ever Gallery Hop. He has since regularly purchased art from varied Columbus sources and will be sharing his collection. The exhibit will be available to view from 4:00pm – 9:00pm during Gallery Hop and Wagner will be giving tours on Saturday, June 9 from 3:00pm – 5:00pm and by appointment through Sherrie Gallerie (call for appointments).

 

 

 

Studios on High Gallery
Studios on High Gallery
will present Unconventional Abstractions by abstract painter Ruth Ann Mitchell, who pushes convention with her new works, incorporating hardware and wood into her new pieces. Inspired by the fluidity and motion of puzzles and games, the artist moves beyond painted canvas, exploring dimension and texture within geometric forms and painterly surfaces..

Fount will present the large format mixed media art of Colleen Ward during Gallery Hop, and she will be in the shop to meet and greet customers.

 

 

 

 

 

Glean
During the June 2018 Gallery Hop, visit Glean to meet artist Ashley Bartnick of Knotted Yarns. Bartnick asked herself, “What could be done with two sticks and a string?” Knitting was often valued for its functionality, and she wanted to change that perception. She considers knitting to be an art, and when you come to her opening show at Glean, you will be taken by her 3D fiber art portraits. Come and see if your hero is hanging on their walls.

 

 

 

Global Gifts
Get ready for festival season during the June 2018 Gallery Hop at Global GiftsArtisan-made fanny packs are woven by fairly paid Mayan women in Guatemala using traditional techniques. At Gallery Hop, they’ll be giving away a rainbow fanny pack to celebrate Pride! Fair Trade coffee and baked treats will be available for sampling.

 

 

 

 

Greater Columbus Convention Center
Visit the Greater Columbus Convention Center during Gallery Hop to view the largest contemporary collection of central Ohio art, featuring the interactive “As We Are” sculpture by Matthew Mohr. This 14-foot-tall, three-dimensional universal human head sculpture contains a photo booth capable of shooting 3-D pictures. After each photo shoot, the guest emerges from the booth to see his or her portrait projected as the enlarged face of “As We Are.” The special Gallery Hop parking rate in the Goodale Garage is $5.00 per vehicle from 4:00pm – 10:00pm.

 

 

 

Pies and Pints
Pies & Pints will present Best of Ohio by Jessica Foust of Designs Entwined at the June 2018 Gallery Hop. Foust began Designs Entwined as a hobby in 2012 after she created her first string art piece for her home in downtown Columbus. After numerous requests for custom pieces for friends and family, Jessica was approached by a retail store and business truly exploded. This showcase features interpretations of her favorite parts of Columbus and Ohio.

 

 

 

Pursuit
Every day, some of Ohio’s most talented and motivated walk through Pursuit‘s door to be outfitted for their biggest moments. Pursuit is excited to spotlight that talent by giving them their in-store stage for season two of their concert series, “In Pursuit.” Come see mungbean  for a special variety show during Gallery Hop from 7:00pm – 9:00pm.

The ‘In Pursuit’ Concert Series is a FREE, unique in-store music experience!

 

 

 

Skully’s Music-Diner
Every Gallery Hop, Skully’s Music-Diner hosts Get Right with DJ Tron, a 21+ EDM/Trap/Hip-Hop dance party. Event begins at 10:00pm and there is a $5.00 cover charge until midnight. Dress code enforced.

 

 

 

 

 

Soul
Le Meridien: The Joseph loves to support local business and local music. Soul teams up with the North Market’s Black Radish Creamery to break out the jams, figuratively and literally! Come drink a specialty cocktail inspired by and incorporating locally-made Black Radish Jam, and try a variety of jams from Black Radish Creamery during Gallery Hop from 6:00pm – 10:00pm.

 

 

 

 

TORSO
TORSO
 will feature self-taught artist Michael Owens. Born outside of Seattle, Owens grew up on military bases, eventually settling in western Colorado. The outsider artist would later join the Army himself and was stationed in Germany. He eventually settled in Columbus and began painting in 2000. Honing in on acrylic, his work offers explosive uses of color in both massive abstract and unapologetic strokes of pop art. Inspired by the masterful works of Lichtenstein and Warhol, his work finds itself playing a climactic game of tongue-in-cheek.
