The Marvelous Wonderettes

Joyful retro takes the stage in The Green Room at the Garden Theater on Feb 16 when Short North Stage opens the nostalgic pop musical The Marvelous Wonderettes. The off-Broadway hit from 2008, created and written by Roger Bean, tells the story of a Fifties girl group, The Wonderettes, from their debut at a high school prom in 1958 to their return ten years later for a reunion during the rapidly changing 1960s. The journey is a roller coaster of familiar pop songs, which take the audience from the harmonies of the Chordettes’ Mr. Sandman and Lollipop to the plaintive demands of Aretha Franklin’s Respect.
