December 24, 2014
With the New Year comes new beginnings on a bright new horizon. People everywhere are going to be having that last sugary treat, taking their dry cleaning off their treadmills, and throwing out their take-out menus, in search of better options. The New Year is a time for both introspection and looking forward, reevaluating the trajectory of our lives, and putting our best foot forward.
Thankfully there’s going to be a party beforehand! The Short North Arts District offers up the some of the city’s most unique, interesting, and delicious spots to ring in the New Year. Like getting in that last sled ride before spring melts the snow, New Year’s Eve is the perfect setting to say goodbye to 2014, and look ahead to a bright and shiny 2015. After all, ‘ya gotta fight fire with fire.’ Here are a few great options for how to spend your NYE.
Union Café and Axis Nightclub
For drinks, dinner, and dancing, Union Café and Axis Nightclub take the top spots this year! Starting the night out at Union, after a fabulous three-course meal (vegetarian options available), Nina West, Virginia West, and other dragtastic friends take to the stage for the Divas show. The show will feature lip-syncing, comedy, dance, and throwing a little shade at the unsuspecting viewer, of course. Dinner at Union also includes a free ticket to Axis Nightclub (right across the street) for a late night party being hosted by RuPaul’s Drag Race superstar Nina Flowers and filled with eye candy from Andrew Christian’s modeling books. Bring ya dancin’ shoes!
Camelot Cellars: A Masquerade Ball with Crimson Lace Cabaret
For this New Year’s Eve, Camelot Cellars Winery is the stop for those who want a little bit of the best of everything. Tickets are $35 and definitely work for their price. Included for the evening is food provided by High Street favorite Hubbard Grille. Brave Weather, Columbus’ native blues band, will be setting the tone for guests to check out some of fashion looks by costume designers Shiree Houf and Ashley Wills as well as checking out Camelot’s extensive wine collections. The finale though is the big attraction, with Columbus’ best known vintage burlesque troupe, Crimson Lace Cabaret, putting on a deliciously seductive show to make you rethink some of your resolutions. Don’t forget your mask as it is required, along with your ticket to enter the party.
Hilton Downtown Columbus
For a New Year’s Eve splurge the stop has to be the Hilton Downtown Columbus. Their beautiful restaurant, Gallerie Bar & Bistro is offering a special dinner package that is sure to blow anyone’s socks off. Check out the 7:15pm to 10:00pm seating for $150.00, which is little pricey, yes, but includes five courses, a bottle of champagne, a seafood tower, and a pass to their New Year’s party. NYE at the Hilton features live music and all the champagne you could ask for. Parking is complimentary and guests are offered special rates for rooms for the night, so be sure to celebrate late into the night.
For a more active New Year’s celebration head to Danceville, U.S.A. The dance studio is celebrating by throwing a Masquerade Ball where the guests are, of course, expected to take part in the revelry. The party goes from 10:00pm to 12:15pm and includes hors d’oeuvres, champagne, and a view of the ball drop. The real attraction is the group class included with entry and choreographed performances by the instructors throughout the night! Tickets are $35.00 in advance and $40.00 at the door.
