Out with the old and in with the new! After months of construction, the Short North Kroger, which has been serving the neighborhood for many years, has put the finishing touches on their new, massive rebuild! The new store, important to several of the city’s revitalization efforts, has been much anticipated and will open their doors this Tuesday, July 26.
The new Short North Arts District Kroger is not just your average grocery store coming into the neighborhood. This is the first time in central Ohio that Kroger has used this particular design. In order to promote the renovation of this area of the city while still honoring the neighborhood, new Kroger building extends completely to the High Street sidewalk and the main entrance and parking can be found facing 7th Avenue. The new Kroger is one of the many steps helping bridge the area between the University District and the Short North Arts District.
Among the structural advances the new Short North Arts District Kroger has made, there are many behind the scenes ventures that make them a special addition to Columbus. “We really want to show the neighborhood and its residents that we are here to help promote this community,” says Guy Dublin, Short North Arts District Kroger Manager. “We are very excited to be opening and welcome the neighborhood shoppers to come in a see the new and exciting features.” As part of their community involvement, the new Kroger is working on promoting art in the window fronts and manager Guy Dublin personally made his way around to neighboring businesses to introduce himself and answer any questions about the new store.
The new Kroger will be more spacious, well laid-out, and stocked with old and new product favorites. “Customers will find everything from baby to Buckeye,” says Mary Franke, Kroger Broadcast Coordinator. Just a few of the new amenities include: acceptance of The Ohio State University BuckID for students, an in-store bistro, an olive bar, a hot soup bar, a sandwich station, bulk natural foods, sushi, a beverage center, pharmacy, service meat & seafood, artisan breads, a liquor store (found adjacent to the building), floral products, and organics!
