As the winter wanes and the first of the crocuses and daffodils push through the last remnants of snow on the ground, it’s hard not to feel at least a little magic in the crispness of the first of spring air. The chirping of newborn birds bounces off the brick walls along High Street through the tree cover and a new carpet of mint green replaces the old blanket of snow. Spring is a new beginning, which is why matrimony naturally accompanies it. This spring, couples across the city will be saying “I do”, and the Short North Arts District in the heart of Columbus is the perfect place for two hearts to come together. Here is a list of everything couples will need to make their big day the perfect day.

Rings & Jewels

Grandview Mercantile

Known mostly for their outstanding collections of furniture and home décor, Grandview Mercantile also specializes in antique jewelry. Dozens of glass compartments are filled with beautiful pieces that are one-of-a-kind and incredibly unique. Definitely not for the ordinary bride, while diamonds do make an appearance the mercantile’s collections are filled with opal, garnet, pearl, and intertwined figures in vintage rose gold.

Star Jewelers on High

Star Jewelers is the place for getting starry eyed. Rows and rows of beautifully brilliant stones line this family owned jewelery boutique recently moved into the District from Bexley. Wonderfully intricate bands of silver characterize much of their bridal collection, highlighting lace and floral motifs, covered in exquisitely cut diamonds. Being family owned, the store prides itself on a level of personal care with customers that is hard to find elsewhere.

Alexanders Jewelers

With impressive lines from hard to come by jewelers, including Jack Kelege and Fana NY, the showroom at Alexanders Jewelers is meticulously filled with pieces that are meant to impress and inspire. The staff at Alexanders is incredibly knowledgeable, ready to assist a first-time ring buyer with questions of clarity, carat size, cost, and cut. The store works hard to maintain its distinction as a location of excellence and brings that mindset with them to every client they meet.

Venues

The Garden Theater

Now beautifully renovated, High Street’s Garden Theatre has been restored to much of it’s former glory. This local landmark, as a surprise to many, is one of most memorable spots for a wedding in the city. The intimately sized stage is big enough to host their myriad collection of performances throughout the year, but small enough for an average sized wedding party to feel comfortable and cozy throughout the evening. Architecturally captivating and incredibly unique, the Garden Theater is an amazing option for couples who wish to celebrate in the city.

Goodale Park

In the very center of Columbus, Goodale Park is one of the city’s most loved landmarks. Surrounded by new spring blossoms and beautiful views of the city through the tree cover, a spring wedding at Goodale Park is an amazing event. Ceremonies are hosted at the gazebo by the lake, with the sounds of the iconic elephant fountain in the background. Contact the Recreation and Parks Department of the City of Columbus to make a booking.

For the best correspondence goods, only one name should be on this list and that’s On Paper. The inspiringly unique shop offers a huge selection of carefully crafted invitations of course, but they go much further. From guest books and pens to programs, welcome bags, place cards, seating charts and even cocktail napkins, the store has every couple covered when it comes to the written word.

Laughlin’s Bakery

Quickly becoming a new city favorite since opening up in the Short North late last year, Laughlin’s Bakery is a great stop for sweet treats outside of the cake department. Their sumptuously sweet varieties of cookies, bars, pastries, and breads are perfect for topping tables after dinner with, filling up guest bags with or the next morning’s big family breakfast.

Rehearsal Dinners & Catering

Hubbard Bar & Grill

Set in the historic Winders Motor Sales Company building, Hubbard Bar & Grille offers a little bit of both old and new Columbus. Renovated to perfection, their first floor restaurant is a spot many are familiar with. Unknown to many is their second floor’s private dining room and bar. Overlooking High Street and decked out to impress, Hubbard’s private space is perfect for a rehearsal dinner or reception. The menu blends classic and contemporary, featuring much loved classic comfort food recipes with unique twists featuring local growers and a talented crew of cooks. Wine and beer lists are impressive, almost as much as their long list of house-created signature cocktails.

Martini Modern Italian

While most Short Northers know Martini as one of the best happy hour spots in town, they also double as one the chicest private event spaces in the city. Covered in dark woods, leather and art-house lighting, Martini delivers atmosphere on lock. Great for groups up to 70, guests can be treated to Martini’s delicious, contemporary Italian fare. Whether it’s a plated dinner, buffet, or cocktail reception with small bites, Martini Modern Italian is a good bet for a party that gets it just right.

Rigsby’s Kitchen

Rigsby’s Kitchen is by far one of the District’s most loved spots. Their flair for modern Italian cuisine and their impeccably posh dining room are a treat for any food lover. Even better, as a pleasant surprise to many, is that the experience isn’t just limited to their High Street restaurant. Rigsby’s doubles as a full service caterer, offering off-site services as well as their private dining space (which doubles as an art gallery), Ray’s Living Room. Rigsby’s focus on seasonality and use of local vendors shines through as ever and doesn’t back down from wanting to impress.

Photography

Greg Miller Photography

With over 30 years of experience, Greg Miller Photography is sure to capture your wedding moments with an unparalleled eye for detail. Not really having a distinctive style, his philosophy revolves around his clients, trying to capture the spirit of the subject rather than adding his own exposition. His portfolio includes many well-known local business and government leaders, as well as high profile events around the city.

Amy Clark Studios

Amy Clark admits her love of weddings “may rival just about any teenage girl.” Blending funky and edgy, vintage and modern, Amy brings a real passion to the table that is hard to find elsewhere. Her albums are whimsical and endearing, capturing all the moments a couple could want to remember their big day. Details are a big focus for Amy, focusing on the lace of a gown, ripple of frosting on a cake, and drops of dew on a wayward flower petal.

Salons

Reverse Vanity Spa

A full service salon and spa, Reverse Vanity Spa is a home away from home. Their services include waxing, massage, facials, microdermabrasion, nail therapy, make-up, airbrushing, and more. While they don’t offer packages in-house for bridal parties they DO offer a lifesaver – on-site stylists to make sure every hair is where it needs to be for the aisle. Boasting an experienced team of experts, brides don’t have to worry that they’re in the best hands in town.

Bliss Event Design in the Short North Arts District can definitely help, because when it comes to weddings, they’re no amateurs. Creating spectacular events across the state, the staff at Bliss all boast varied backgrounds, from Disneyland to high fashion.
