The places depicted in Aman’s works are fictional; the majority of them are drawn and painted entirely from imagination and in the few instances that necessitated visual reference it was referred to minimally. Aman frees himself of the burden of strict realism thereby creating a more honest expression through the filters of memory and intuition. This method endows the works with an openness that allows for a kind of universality. Aman’s haunting paintings and sketches seek to capture the unique capacity of landscape to form a midpoint between representation and abstraction.

Artist Bob Tavani
Grid Furnishings will host an opening reception August 3, during Gallery Hop for “Peeled Paintings,” an exhibit by Bob Tavani. “My new paintings look spontaneous and textural. In actuality, they are highly crafted and ultra-smooth. I create the paintings on coated Plexiglas and then peel them off and mount them on canvas. I use a clear support so I can view the painting’s progress from the opposite side. Painting from the back, I tear and cut away layers of dried acrylic paint only to replace them with new layers; this process contributes to the collaged appearance of the work. Each brush stroke, layer and drip seen is compressed and exists on the same plane. The paintings are ultra-smooth because they echo the Plexiglas surface.”
