“Just when you think you might be getting a little cynical about the theatre…think about 600 Highwaymen.”—New Yorker on Employee of the Year
After her home burns down, a young girl leaves everyone and everything she has behind. From this moment, a singular journey of transformation begins as five girls in the twilight of childhood tell the story of this woman’s life, from age three to 80. In Employee of the Year, Brooklyn-based ensemble 600 HIGHWAYMEN juxtaposes the complexities and nuances of aging against the fragile innocence and spontaneity of these young performers.
600 HIGHWAYMEN and its co-artistic directors Abigail Browde and Michael Silverstone have redefined the landscape of live performance in expansive, refreshingly sincere works often incorporating nonprofessionals. With an arresting theatrical style and original songs by Obie Award–winner David Cale, this unique, rigorously tuned production investigates a lifelong search for identity with a touching poetic spell that lingers long after the show ends.
