In this new body of work, Cody Heichel has gravitated to a more distilled, yet figurative, landscape while exploring new color relationships. He has chosen to simplify his subject matter through composition and technique by omitting fine details. The simplicity is deceptive as Heichel attempts to elicit the essence of the subject into the final painting. By imbuing the materiality of his paint with the unique light of the Midwest, he attempts to have the viewer experience the landscape by feeling and suggestion rather than detail.
