Winter/Spring 2018 Preview
Hailing from Mauritania on the west coast of Africa, filmmaker Med Hondo is known for an uncompromising, provocative body of work that fiercely critiques the legacy of European colonialism while demanding further consideration of his continent’s cinema. In this presentation, Aboubakar Sanogo, assistant professor of film studies at Ottawa’s Carleton University, examines Hondo’s films and looks ahead to the new Africa Film Heritage Project. Launched by Martin Scorsese’s Film Foundation, the initiative aims to preserve the output of filmmakers like Hondo, many of whom produce their work outside of western capitalist systems.
Presented in partnership with The Global Mobility Project at Ohio State, a Humanities & Arts Discovery Theme pilot project. For more information visit u.osu.edu/globalmobility.
