Winter/Spring 2018 Preview

The iconic cult documentary Paris Is Burning provides a powerful and stimulating look at the golden age of drag ballroom culture in 1980s Harlem—a crucible of LGBTQ expression and style, as well as a refuge for the scene’s Latino and African American youth. The winner of a Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury Prize, the film is screened in conjunction with the panel Topics in Black Masculinity: The Fierceness of Black Sexuality, Black Gay Identity, and Black Sexual Freedom. (78 mins., DCP)

Digitally remastered version courtesy of the UCLA Film & Television Archive in conjunction with Sundance Institute and the Outfest UCLA Legacy Project.
