Paul Patton: Rix Mills Remembered at Lindsay Gallery

Paul Patton {1921-1999} grew up in the tiny Muskingum County village of Rix Mills, Ohio. It was a place where kids walked to a one room schoolhouse, worked in the fields and spent their playtime in the Appalachian foothills. When Patton retired he realized that his beloved village had been all but wiped out by strip mining. So, with no formal training, he produced over 500 paintings of the Rix Mills he remembered. “The village I knew so well as a boy remains dear to my heart. But, except for the Rix Mills Church and a few houses, nearly every vestige of our way of life is gone. All that is left are memories.”
