Come to Literary Night at the Pizzuti Collection featuring Ruth Awad, Barbara Fant, Dr. Pranav Jani, and Dr. Amit Majmudar (Ohio’s Poet Laureate). The current exhibition, Visions From India, serves as the backdrop to a night of moving, thoughtful, and poignant readings. Guests may explore the exhibition before and after the event.

RUTH AWAD
Ruth Awad is an award-winning Lebanese-American poet whose debut poetry collection ‘Set to Music a Wildfire’ won the 2016 Michael Waters Poetry Prize from Southern Indiana Review Press. She is the recipient of an Ohio Arts Council Individual Excellence Award. She won the 2012 and 2013 Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Poetry Prize and the 2011 Copper Nickel Poetry Contest, and she was a finalist for the 2013 Ruth Lily Fellowship.

BARBARA FANT
Barbara Fant, originally from Youngstown, Ohio is a performance poet and an artist facilitator. She has been on three National Poetry slam teams from Columbus and has represented the city in four Individual National and World Poetry slam competitions. Her first poetry collection, Paint, Inside Out was released in April 2010 from Penmanship Books of New York City when she was awarded The Cora Craig Award for Young Women Authors. She is a former employee of the Huckleberry House and of Art for a Child’s Safe America. She is also a member of Transit Arts, ArtFluential of REACH communications, Is Said and the Advance Party and has also been a regular performer on the radio show Street Soldiers.

DR. PRANAV JANI
Pranav Jani is Associate Professor of English at The Ohio State University and author of Decentering Rushdie: Cosmopolitanism and the Indian Novel in English (2010). His areas of expertise include Postcolonial Studies, Asian American Studies, and Twentieth-Century British and American Literature. He is an experienced educator, longtime social-justice activist, and regular contributor to various publications including International Socialist Review and Socialist Worker.

DR. AMIT MAJMUDAR
The son of immigrants, poet and novelist Amit Majmudar grew up in the Cleveland area. He now lives and works in Dublin, OH. In his precise, often formally driven poems, Majmudar explores themes of identity, history, spiritual faith, and mortality. Majmudar is was a finalist for a Poetry Society of America’s Norma Faber First Book Award and was chosen for the Donald Justice prize. Majmudar has also published the novels Partitions (2011) and The Abundance (2013). He has also contributed essays to the Kenyon Review blog, the New York Times, and the New York Review of Books.
