“To call it overwrought would be an understatement….arguably the bravest female performance ever put on film.”—RogerEbert.com

One of the most extreme marital breakup films ever created, Possession is a polarizing, notorious cult classic that’s only now starting to receive serious consideration. When a troubled couple’s relationship starts to go wrong—a conflict brilliantly played by Sam Neill and Isabelle Adjani, who won Best Actress at Cannes for her performance—things escalate into the violent, surreal, and bizarre. Simultaneously recalling David Cronenberg, Lars von Trier, and Ingmar Bergman, Possession’s apocalyptic and overheated fantasy was influenced by writer/director Andrzej Żuławski’s own recent and very messy divorce. Following the screening, Tuten will reflect on his collaboration and friendship with Żuławski. (127 mins., 35mm)
