The daughters of rival political families, Kena and Ziki have been raised to be good, proper Kenyan girls, but they have dreams that exceed the boundaries of their conservative society. Not long after the girls meet and encourage each other to be their true selves, they fall in love and have to choose between happiness and safety. Initially banned in Kenya for its positive portrayal of queer romance, Rafiki won a landmark Supreme Court case that has chipped away at the country’s anti-LGBT legislation. (83 mins., DCP)
