Cinema Revival: A Festival of Film Restoration

Winter/Spring 2018 Preview

“Why shouldn’t I have just as much as any other woman in the world?” asks the ex-prostitute played by Jane Russell in The Revolt of Mamie Stover. Run out of San Francisco, Stover hopes to start a new life in Honolulu. Things are looking up when she meets a nice guy on the way, becomes the main attraction at the local dance hall cantina, and makes a fortune in real estate when World War II breaks out. Despite all this, her past comes back to haunt her, complicating any hopes of true happiness. Shot in Cinemascope and presented in a new restoration, this classic (and Waikiki Beach) has never looked better! With Richard Egan, Joan Leslie, and Agnes Moorehead. (92 mins., 4K DCP)
