Jaye Schlesinger will exhibit POSSESSED, a series of nearly 400 small paintings that depict each of her personal possessions. The series began when Schlesinger decided to downsize of her belongings, and is informed by an interest in mindfulness and minimalism. Some paintings show objects that are purely practical, while some show objects that exist for beauty alone. By culling and then dutifully representing each object, Schlesinger raises questions about value, quantity and practicality in regards to the things we own and the reasons we keep them.

Katherine Cunningham will show a selection of photographs from Utopia Remains. The series explores and documents the sites of nineteenth century utopian experiments around Ohio. The work combines photography with text from a primary source about the utopian experiment represented, as well as information about its demise. Cunningham’s act of preservation earmarks stories that otherwise might be on their way to obscurity. In doing so she contrasts the idealism of a utopian society with the landscapes altered by their downfall.
