This crash course in the contemporary documentary features short films from both established and up-and-coming filmmakers working in a dizzying range of forms and tones. Among the highlights are Balloonfest (Nathan Truesdell, 2017), consisting of news footage from a 1986 attempt to set the world record for releasing the most balloons simultaneously (taking place in Cleveland, the whole event becomes a misguided exercise in civic pride) and Edith+Eddie (Laura Checkoway, 2017), which follows the world’s oldest interracial newlyweds and the heart-rending fallout from their marriage. Watch this page for a complete lineup. (Program approx. 80 mins., digital video)
