Winter/Spring 2018 Preview
Hondo’s first feature film, Soleil Ô is a searing commentary on the treatment of immigrants and France’s colonialist legacy. Based on Hondo’s own migrant experience, the drama follows a group of Africans in Paris who become disillusioned by the racism that keeps them from opportunity and instead in a series of dead-end jobs. Shot on a less-than-shoestring budget, this imaginative, criminally underseen work is stylistically in keeping with films then emerging from New Wave movements around the world. (98 mins., DCP)
