“Achingly beautiful ode to the quiet complexities of family life.”—Telegraph (UK)

Arguably today’s most-celebrated Japanese director (not named Miyazaki!), Hirokazu Kore-eda has been a favorite of Wex audiences since our screenings of Maborosi (1995) and After Life (1998). His latest, After the Storm, is a penetrating family drama that follows a once-successful author, now a down-and-out private detective, who can’t even afford child support due to his gambling. Following the death of his father, the detective tries to regain the trust of his ex-wife and rebuild his relationship with his young son. (117 mins., DCP)
