February Exhibitions in the Short North Arts District
This month, explore gallery exhibitions and public art installations throughout Columbus’ historical arts district. Below are some highlights from February’s gallery and business exhibitions; please note that holidays and winter weather may impact operating hours.
Adamah Ceramics | 641 N. High St.
Explore Jim Bowling’s exhibition entitled “Short Stories.”
Bowling uses the body to discuss social, political, and spiritual themes, both as facilitator and as provocateur. Bowling finds creating work that focuses on the male form provides a platform for expressing his personal history as a gay man, and a means of reconciling the contentious relationship LGBTQI+ people often have with their own bodies.
The material traditions of ceramics inform Bowling’s process, but the “story” is what gives it meaning and purpose. Bowling is inspired by both natural and human-made objects that evidence signs of wear, age, and decay; these surfaces imply a sense of depth and “experience.” The resulting combination of organic and “hard” surfaces express a sense of both chaos and order, coexisting in a “yin yang” relationship.
