With the New Year comes an entirely new series of collections gracing the Short North’s numerous galleries dotting the District. Up and down High Street new exhibition openings beg to be admired and taken in. Accompanied by street musicians, performance artists and vendors, January’s Gallery Hop promises to dazzel with art and entertainment.

ROY G BIV
995 N High Street

ROY G BIV is featuring Nathan Gorgen and Jordin Caudill from January 3-31 with an opening reception on Saturday, January 3, from 7-10pm. An artists’ talk will be on Saturday, January 31 at 2:30pm.

Gorgen’s faux-finish paintings question the value of luxury items. Caudill’s geometric weavings explore domestic interior spaces.

 

 

 

 

 

Sherrie Gallerie
694 N High Street

Sherrie Gallerie will be featuring 2D artist Laine Bachman throughout the month of January.

During Gallery Hop, Sherrie Gallerie will also have an exhibition by photographer Jennie Key, titled Let Me Hold You, a photographic celebration of life, love and courage. This project’s mission, featuring cancer survivors and their loved ones, is to raise awareness and encourage prevention and treatment by celebrating the patients’ courageous and life-affirming battle against this dreaded disease. See the artist’s work on Saturday January 3 to Sunday, January 4.

 

 

Brandt-Roberts Galleries
642 N High St

In addition to outstanding new works by the stable of talented new works, Brandt-Roberts Galleries will be presenting several new paintings by Bryan Roberts, the gallery’s co-founder. Mr. Roberts’ serene landscapes depict rural Ohio in autumn and winter and are created in a variety of sizes.

 

 

 

Studios on High

Studios On High Gallery features artist Bill Meyer’s show, Selling In vs. Selling Out, January 1-30, 2015. Through his clay sculptures and graphite drawings, Meyer’s works explore human motivation – the internal and external factors that create drive and inspiration

 

 

The Oak Room
511 N High Street

The Oak Room presents Souled World: Personification in Small Artwork curated by GCAC fellow recipient Nicolette Swift on view through January 31. Souled World features local and nationally celebrated artists discussing the theme of personification. The Oak Room will be closed on January 3 for the gallery’s bi-annual holiday break. Visit The Oak Room after Thursday, January 8.

 

 

Hilton Downtown Columbus in partnership with Muse Gallery
401 N High St

The Hilton Columbus Downtown in partnership with Muse Gallery will be exhibiting Char Norman from January 15 – February 15. This exhibition is open to the public on the Lobby Level of the hotel.

Char Norman’s work is an exploration of natural forms. She uses pods and organic shapes encased in weaving and extensively preserved, to comment on birth and death, the shapes representation both pod and reliquary.

 

 

 

 

Rivet
1200 N High St

Rivet will have I Am Doll Parts, featuring the paper doll art of Angie Mason, Crankbunny, and Mab Graves. The exhibit will run from January 3 through January 31 with an opening reception on January 3 from 7-10pm.

For the January Gallery Hop, pm gallery will be featuring Michael Secrest. He is a graduate of The Ohio State University and a lifelong resident of Ohio. His current show at pm gallery explores the texture and depth of autumn in Goodale Park.

His abstract work uses a similar palette and evokes the stirring of wind through autumn leaves. The show runs through January 30.

 

 

Sharon Weiss Gallery

For the January Gallery Hop, Sharon Weiss is working with The Ohio State University Faculty Club to feature Malcolm Baroway and his exhibition New Works.

The show will be on display at The Ohio State University Faculty Club and an opening reception will be on Friday, January 16 from 6-8pm.

Sean Christopher Gallery Ohio will be featuring Kimberly M. Webb, ditched until January 31.

ditched is a new body of sculptural works, a continuation of Webb’s studies and experimentation during her graduate research in the MFA program at the Columbus College of Art and Design. The artist is the Gallery Manager at the Fresh A.I.R. Gallery, Columbus, and was recently accepted for participation in an overseasArtist Residency in Spain for 2015 with financial support by the Greater Columbus Arts Council.

T. David Collection 

T. David Collection will feature guest jewelry artist, Teresa Morbitzer for the January Hop. Teresa will have her handmade and designed jewelry pieces at T. David Collection, with many of them on sale.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Big Fun Columbus

Big Fun Columbus will feature students from Amanda Clearcreek High School. The students are taught by local artist, Brent Elaam. Don’t miss the cool kids’ space band, The Shazzbots performing from 12-1:30pm.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Global Gifts

For January, Global Gifts is helping you get ready for Valentine’s Day by featuring colorful, heart-shaped soapstone craft items from the artisan group Tabaka.

Tabaka is a cooperative group of soapstone carvers from the Kisii tribe in Kenya.
