This month, explore gallery exhibitions and public art installations throughout Columbus’ historical arts district. Below are some highlights from January’s gallery and business exhibitions, please note that holidays and winter weather may impact operating hours.

Join us at Adamah in welcoming Cory Mahoney and Morgan Rose Free! Cory will present his captivating ceramic chair series, pushing the boundaries of clay into functional art.

Morgan features a playful collection of functional art, drawing inspiration from bugs to slugs which invites curiosity and conversation. And don’t miss their first collaboration sgraffito chair!

Marcia Evans Gallery | 8 E. Lincoln St.

This month, discover ”Artful Holiday Gifts” the annual Holiday event at the Marcia Evans Gallery!

Delight your friends and family under the tree this year with the gift of art by various Ohio native artists! New items to the 2024 event include handmade black & white pearl necklaces, handmade cutting boards, and hand-painted cocktail napkins!

Sean Christopher Gallery Ohio | 815 N. High St. Ste. H

As individual artists and a collaborative team, in December of 2024, Nikki and Matt Swift celebrate 25 years exploring audio visual technology to craft meaning out of the past, present and possible future that they encounter. Phases brings together their individual works with one focusing on the past we have not yet learned from and keep repeating and the other projecting a future outcome that seems to loom in the distance.

Sharon Weiss Gallery | 20 E Lincoln St.

The Sharon Weiss Gallery is hosting a Salon Show featuring new works from gallery artists this month.

A fresh start for the year, this Salon Show offers variety and highly unique pieces for the collector, first-time visitor, or gallery regular.

The Little Blue House by Sharon Weiss Gallery | 24 E Lincoln St.

At The Little Blue House, a collaborative space dedicated to elevating women painters in Central Ohio, enjoy works from Amy Adams, Lisa Parks Godfrey, Karen LaValley, and more. This collective of talented artists showcases an array of powerful and emotional pieces that highlight the female experience through visual art.

At The Hop by Judy Hoberg

Studios On High Gallery | 686 N. High St.

SOHG presents their annual holiday show featuring smaller pieces by member artists, ideal for holiday gifting. Patrons can sample a broad range of diverse work from jewelry and oils, to wildlife sculpture, and mixed media collage.

Public Art in the Short North Arts District

This December, explore these exciting public art installations:

  • AfterGlow Digital Projection Series
    • AfterGlow is a projection mural series displaying dynamic digital artwork in the Short North Arts District. The mural series, projected on the south-facing exterior wall at 937 N. High St., will illuminate and beautify the district for at least two evenings from sunset to midnight on the weekend of Gallery Hop. Now Accepting Applicants for Upcoming Gallery Hops
  • Summer Spray Mural “Beyond the Seen”
    • Discover a vibrant mural that challenges perceptions and invites viewers to question reality. Located on the Goodale cap, this 1,280 sq. ft. work by nine local artists is a must-see for its bold and thought-provoking design. 
  • The Gathered by Andrew Hendrixson
    • This 625 sq. ft. tile mosaic, composed of 400,000 bespoke glass tiles, celebrates the idea of community, drawing inspiration from the poem Hymn by A.R. Ammons. Located on the east-facing exterior of Parkside on Pearl. 
  • That Level of Freshness by Dr. Steve Art
    • Located at Sweetgreen, this fun and energetic 115 sq. ft. mural showcases bursts of fruits, herbs, and natural imagery—perfect for a place that celebrates fresh living.
