At the heart of the exhibition is his “Encyclopedia of Invisibility,” an evolving compendium of “hidden” histories, which the artist has compiled into an open-ended archive of figures, events, and ideas suppressed within canonizing historical narratives. The “Encyclopedia” has inspired many of Strachan’s recent projects, including his monumental sculptures, works in glass and ceramic, paintings, tapestries, self-playing musical instruments, and room-scale installations.
