MAY EXHIBITIONS IN THE SHORT NORTH ARTS DISTRICT

2024 May Gallery Hop in the Short North Arts District occurs on May 4 from 4-8 p.m.

Gallery Hop is turning 40 this year! The May Gallery Hop will fill the district with new local artists, performers, vendors and more. Art lovers and district frequenters should be excited to visit the specialty galleries featuring new artworks on display from a variety of local talented artists. In addition to viewing featured and public art, Gallery Hop visitors are able to explore local boutiques, unique shops and a variety of food and dining venues throughout the Short North Arts District.

MAY GALLERY EXHIBITIONS

Adamah Ceramics | 641 N. High St.

Adamah’s May Gallery Hop will feature ceramic artist Donna Hecker! Her sculptural work and attention to detail is simply stunning. From gorillas, to polar bears, to rabbits, she’s got you covered. Come see Hecker’s newest collection which features something we wear everyday: shoes!

Alongside Donna, Adamah is pleased to host Wellington School’s advanced studio art class! The mixed media class will act as the second Studio Show. During Gallery Hop from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm we will be hosting artist Lisa Bare in a hands-on workshop. This class will teach guests how to throw on the wheel and hand build. Brandt-Roberts Galleries | 642 N High St.

Brandt-Roberts Galleries will showcase “Unearthed,” a group exhibition featuring an array of artists. The work is a visually stimulating representation of our perspective on the earth’s changing climate systems and those who show reverence for its natural wonder. By skillfully weaving together elements that showcase the urgency of addressing climate transitions, this exhibition will be an invitation to the observers to consider their own individual and collective roles in environmental stewardship.

Marcia Evans Gallery | 8 E. Lincoln St.

Visit the opening reception for “John Evans Sculpture and Monoprints” at the Marcia Evans Gallery. The Ohio born and nationally recognized sculptor will be displaying 2 of his mentor, David Hostetler’s works as well in honor of their combined show “Mentor & Protege.” This sentimental work celebrates their lifelong friendship.

Sean Christopher Gallery Ohio | 815 N. High St. Ste. H

A tradition for the ages, Sean Christopher Gallery presents Old School 7. Their annual group show celebrates artists who received their education in Columbus, featuring recent works by 1970’s Columbus College of Art and Design-CCAD Alumni. This year’s exhibitors are: Steve Caler, Beatrice DiMartino, Pat Eastlake, Dave Groff, Bob Horvath, Tamie Rietenbach, Jean Rudegeair, Lance Rudegeair, and James Craig Wiese. Visit their opening reception from 4-8 during May’s hop.

The Little Blue House by Sharon Weiss Gallery | 24 E Lincoln St.

Lincoln Street Art Studios, fondly known as “The Little Blue House Next to Sharon Weiss Gallery” houses 5 working studios and a gallery. The Foyer Gallery exhibits new works by resident artists Amy Adams, Moon Evans, Lisa Parks Godfrey, Karen LaValley and Tamar Rudavsky. These exhibits showcase the individuality of each of these women artists, both in subject matter and artistic expression.

Studios On High Gallery | 686 N. High St.

Studios on High Gallery presents “Renewal” by Teda Theis. This exhibition celebrates the beauty and diversity of nature and how it inspires growth and change — reflecting not only a personal process of transformation, but also a natural cycle that connects us to the world around us. The artist’s works are inspired by different aspects of nature: the seasons, the elements, flora and fauna and the cosmic forces.  We encourage you to attend the artist reception, which runs from 4-7pm.

Gallerie by CFA | 1241 N High St.

Gallerie by CFA, a unique fusion of art and retail, invites you to celebrate gallery hop in a space that will captivate art enthusiasts, shoppers and retail brands alike. The gallery-inspired retail store, located at 1241 North High St., welcomes guests with an evening of creativity, style and sophistication.

Generation Tux | 912 N. High St.

Ginger Rabbit Jazz Lounge | 17 Buttles Ave.

Join Ginger Rabbit with their ever-present and exciting ‘power hour,’ performed by Robert Mason, followed by back to back performances of “The Daniel Meron Trio Presents: Pendulum.” A prominent figure in the modern jazz scene, with four critically acclaimed albums, the short north is thrilled to welcome this NYC group as they deliver a memorable experience of sounds and colors from all over the world.


Hashtag Comedy Company | First Saturdays with… ROT! | 1253 N. High St.

The Short North Arts District’s newest comedy venue, Hashtag Comedy Company, is joining in on the excitement of Gallery Hop with their monthly series, First Saturdays with… ROT! This will be an evening filled with laughter, creativity, and a touch of the unexpected to audiences, making each show an unforgettable experience.

ROT stands out as a Columbus-renowned indie improv group, born in 2016 from the camaraderie of a close-knit circle of best friends, all of whom share the distinction of being alumni of Ohio State’s Fishbowl Improv. Infused with the vibrant energy of friendship and a lively, playful dynamic, ROT guarantees to whisk you away on an absurd adventure with every performance.

Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show begins at 7:30 p.m.
