ROY G BIV Gallery proudly presents the six finalists of the AICUO Award for Excellence in the Visual Arts. The award recognizes outstanding senior artists from colleges and universities in Ohio. Finalists Lauryn Olivia King, Audrey Nation, Justine Neuberger, Lauren Hector, Sarah Rose Lejeune and Catherine Stanley will display their work from May 2 through May 30. There will be an opening reception on Saturday May 2 from 7:00pm – ­10:00pm and an artists’ talk on Saturday, May 30 at 2:30pm.

For the May Gallery Hop, Mac Worthington Gallery of Contemporary Art is featuring Off The Wall, custom wall sculptures by Mac Worthington. The exhibit will run from May 1 through May 31 with an artist reception on May 16 from 6:00­pm – 9:00pm.

Columbus, Ohio­ Brandt­-Roberts Galleries will present a two­ person contemporary exhibition, titled Lyrically Observed: New Works by Janet Grissom and Yan Sun. Both artists create representational works, featuring richly textured surfaces inspired by their chosen subject matter. With an emphasis on her distinct paint and encaustic application, Grissom’s memorable and lush landscapes invoke a sensory response as if the viewer could hear the rushing water she portrays. Sun chooses to focus more on figurative works of ballet dancers, as well as marina scenes and cultural traditions that express the plain beauty of nature and the body.

Sean Christopher Gallery Ohio is featuring Funhouse: Works by Roger Kent Grosswiler, Tala Catrene Kanani, Jordan Molli, Rachel Nicklaus,Theresa Touma, Charles Wince. Stop by on Gallery Hop, May 2 from 6:00pm – 10:00pm. The exhibit will run through June 27. This group show features painting, installation, assemblage, sculpture, drawing and printmaking by a collection of recent art school grads along with both novice and accomplished self ­taught Columbus artists.

Teda’s works have been juried and curated into several exhibitions in many collections throughout the United States.

Marcia Evans Gallery is featuring Annette Poitau through May 31. This solo show of Annette’s original oil abstracts, encompasses a new body of work that continues in the non-­figurative style that is grounded in dynamic primordial natural forms, which call to mind the rich colors and textures of the earth. The artist received her MFA in Paris where she still showcases her work, as well as corporate and private collections in the U.S., Europe and Japan.

Rivet is featuring The Art of Naomi Romero from May 2-31 with an artist reception on Saturday, May 2 from 7:00pm – ­10:00pm. Naomi Romero is a self taught freelance illustrator who has done character design and concept art for several animation studios.

For the May Gallery Hop, Lindsay Gallery will be featuring Andrea Joyce Heimer, Man, Myth & Magic. There will be an artist reception on Friday, May 1 from 6:00pm – ­9:00pm. Andrea Joyce Heimer (b. 1981) is a self­-taught painter known for her exploration of the suburban experience, drawing inspiration from the neighborhood mythos of her childhood home in Montana. It is fragments of these stories that make up Heimer’s lush and darkly imaginative works. Part allegory, part autobiography, her tremendously detailed paintings depict scenes of heartbreak, madness, and the emotional claustrophobia that stems from living as an outsider in one’s own backyard.

For the May Gallery Hop, Sherrie Gallerie is featuring FIGURATIVE CERAMICS: Works by Jack Earl, Tom Bartel, and Janis Mars Wunderlich. Three legends in figurative ceramics come together to fill the gallery with unique forms, textures, and ideas. Each artist contributes a concentrated and powerful body of work following their own personal analysis of the human body and the human condition.

Wexner Center for the Arts is featuring a new documentary by Joanna Hamilton 1971 screens on Friday, May 1 and Saturday, May 2 at 7:00pm. The next exhibitions opening at the Wexner Center on Friday, May 15 will be Catherine Opie: Portraits and Landscapes and Jack Whitten: Five Decades of Painting, which will be preceded by the talk, A Conversation with Catherine Opie and Jack Whitten. The talk is free and open to the public with RSVP.

The May featured artist for Brothers Drake is Aaron Sheldon who will be featuring Light/Rail. There will be an artist reception from 6:00­pm – 8:00pm. Light/Rail is an ongoing photography project focused on the subway and its passengers in Washington DC and Boston. Utilizing long exposure black and white capture, Aaron Sheldon spent the last three years documenting these unique underground landscapes and the lives of the people who depend on them. Light/Rail was made possible in part by a grant from the Greater Columbus Arts Council (GCAC). Live music by Blueprint; “King No Crown” Album Release Show will be on Gallery Hop.

Big FunBig Fun Columbus
There are several fun activities planned for the upcoming May Gallery Hop at Big Fun Columbus! Local artist, Roger Kent Grosswiler, returns with a new, wrestling ­themed, batch of his paintings on carved wood. Next, Big Fun Columbus is going to have students from Pickerington High School displaying their artwork. The Shazzbots will return for intergalactic fun and music during Gallery Hop.

Le Meridien, The Joseph will be hosting an event titled, Columbus Through A Lens. Le Meridien, The Joseph encouraged followers to snap shots of their favorite places in Columbus and post them using their IG handle, @lmcolumbusthejoseph, and hashtag, #TheJosephHotel, on April 15. They have selected 10 different shots and printed for display in the lobby for Gallery Hop. Guests during Gallery Hop will be able to then vote on their favorite image that best captures Columbus. The winner of the contest will receive a one night complimentary stay at the hotel. During Gallery Hop, guests will be able to tour through the lobby and explore all of the artwork. Le Meridien, The Joseph will have a DJ playing music in the lobby as well.

Paradise Garage will host the 5th Annual Pinchflat Bicycle Poster Show featuring 30 local artists/30 unique prints for $30 each. Music and refreshments will be available from 6:00pm – ­11:00pm.
