OCTOBER EXHIBITIONS IN THE SHORT NORTH ARTS DISTRICT

This month, explore new gallery exhibitions, local performances, and a range of public art installations throughout the Short North Arts District. Below are some highlights from October’s gallery and business exhibitions.
OCTOBER GALLERY EXHIBITIONS
Adamah Ceramics | 641 N. High St.
This October, Adamah Ceramics will present Christopher St. John, whose works in ceramics and sculpture explore environmental narratives, specifically themes of mass extinction. St. John’s work is known for its intricate and evocative designs that connect deeply with nature. Alongside St. John, the gallery will showcase photographer Brandon Eicher’s stunning landscape photographs, offering a detailed perspective on the natural world.

Marcia Evans Gallery | 8 E. Lincoln St.
Discover nature-inspired works by Pat Carbone and Christy Gerlach at the Marcia Evans Gallery. Their joint exhibition celebrates the beauty and tranquility of the natural world through vibrant, expressive landscapes.

Sean Christopher Gallery Ohio | 815 N. High St. Ste. H
The Sean Christopher Gallery will feature Columbus-based artist Julia Hamilton in a solo exhibition titled “Journey.” Hamilton’s work is deeply personal, with each piece reflecting her evolving artistic path. The mid-exhibition reception during Gallery Hop provides the perfect opportunity to engage with the artist and her ongoing exploration of identity and transformation.

Sharon Weiss Gallery | 20 E Lincoln St.
This month, Sharon Weiss Gallery presents a salon exhibit featuring Paul Pedulla. This intimate showcase offers a range of new works from the gallery’s artists, including Pedulla’s minimalist and atmospheric landscapes, which evoke serenity and quiet contemplation.

The Little Blue House by Sharon Weiss Gallery | 24 E Lincoln St.
At The Little Blue House, a collaborative space dedicated to elevating women painters in Central Ohio, enjoy works from Amy Adams, Lisa Parks Godfrey, Karen LaValley, and more. This collective of talented artists showcases an array of powerful and emotional pieces that highlight the female experience through visual art.

Studios On High Gallery | 686 N. High St.
This October, Studios on High Gallery presents “Side by Side”, featuring the works of Kim Covell Maurer and Mack Mackin. Inspired by their shared love for poet Mary Oliver, this exhibition reflects their deep creative connection, as they explore nature, self-reflection, and the evolution of their mentor-mentee relationship into a collaboration.

Brandt-Roberts Galleries | 642 N. High St
Brandt-Roberts Galleries will host an open house to celebrate four Ohio-based artists—Richard Lillash, Gavin Benjamin, LaShae Boyd, and Darsy Amaya—who have been selected to exhibit their work at the 2024 Havana Biennial in Cuba. The Biennial, renowned for fostering cultural exchange and global artistic dialogue, will celebrate its 40th anniversary with the theme ‘Shared Horizons’, promoting respect for diversity and non-hegemonic knowledge.

The Hilton Downtown | 402 N High St
Stop by The Hilton Downtown hotel lobby during gallery hop to view their rotating gallery, featuring various visual artists. This month’s exhibition will be in the 401 tower on the Lobby Level, to left as you enter the building.

Public Art in the Short North Arts District
During October’s Gallery Hop, explore these exciting new public art installations:
- Summer Spray Mural: “Beyond the Seen”: Discover a vibrant mural that challenges perceptions and invites viewers to question reality. Located on the Goodale cap, this 1,280 sq. ft. work by nine local artists is a must-see for its bold and thought-provoking design.
- The Gathered by Andrew Hendrixson: This 625 sq. ft. tile mosaic, composed of 400,000 bespoke glass tiles, celebrates the idea of community, drawing inspiration from the poem Hymn by A.R. Ammons. Located on the east-facing exterior of Parkside on Pearl.
- That Level of Freshness by Dr. Steve Art: Located at Sweetgreen, this fun and energetic 115 sq. ft. mural showcases bursts of fruits, herbs, and natural imagery—perfect for a place that celebrates fresh living.
- ‘Get Out the Vote’ Mural Project by Shepard Fairey: Renowned artist Shepard Fairey brings his civic engagement message to the Short North with murals across five locations, encouraging voter participation through bold and inspiring art.

Hashtag Comedy Company | First Saturdays with… ROT! | 1253 N. High St.
First Saturdays with… ROT! The Short North Arts District’s newest comedy venue, Hashtag Comedy Company, is joining in on the excitement of Gallery Hop with their monthly series, First Saturdays with… ROT! This will be an evening filled with laughter, creativity, and a touch of the unexpected to audiences, making each show an unforgettable experience. Doors at 7:00. Show at 7:30.
