The Short North Arts District Gallery Hop occurs every first Saturday of each month, as thousands of visitors converge on the strip to see new art exhibits and add to their growing collections. With dozens of galleries and non-traditional exhibit spaces, it’s Columbus’ favorite night of the month to celebrate art.

On the streets, performers settle into the many nooks of the District to entertain the throngs of Short North fans. Guitarists, singers, improvisational dance troupes, even stilt walkers and stage characters add to the unforgettable experience. You will also find vendors selling their hand-crafted one-of-a-kind items.

ROY G BIV– 997 N High St

ROY G BIV presents an exhibition of new work by Robert Howsare and Andrew CopperSmith during the month of September. Join us for the opening reception during Gallery Hop 7-10PM.

Robert Howsare constructs mixed media installations that highlight the anomalies of human perception. His work capitalizes on the “mistakes” that occur when our optical systems attempt to process ambiguous visual stimuli.

Andrew CopperSmith’s sculptures re-contextualize everyday forms and objects into non-sequitur, found-object abstractions. His poetic amalgamations document the human relationship with the materials of our daily routines. Through repurposing and rearranging these often overlooked objects of our physical surroundings, CopperSmith aims to create work that highlights the poetic sensibility of the everyday.

Marcia Evans Gallery– 8 E Lincoln St

The Contemporary Mediums exhibit at Marcia Evans Gallery continues through September 28 featuring the works of Bernice Koff and Cody Heichel.

Koff calls herself a process oriented painter because she became intrigued with new materials and tools. She uses acrylic inks for their dramatic colors, handmade papers and printed photos as both supports and collage elements, and often draws on the painted surface as she sees images emerge.

Cody Heichel is an emerging local contemporary watercolor artist who is an associate member of the Ohio Watercolor Society. In 2012, he was awarded both the 1st place as well as the GCAC award for his work in the Ohio State Fair Plein Air competition.  Heichel sold eight of his pieces just before the August opening night, so be sure to stop in this September Gallery Hop to see what all the buzz is about!
