2022 SUMMER SPRAY ARTIST BIOS

ROGER BRACKINS

@nvtivechild

My name is Roger Gene Brackins. I am a self-taught, Cleveland-born, visual artist. I incorporate realism with a large amount of abstract thought within my work. I can take any subject(s) and display them from my scope. My lens focuses on capturing the emotion of a piece, while still giving a clear message of who or what the subject at hand is and what they represent.

ARIEL PEGUERO

@apegdesign

Ariel Peguero is a Dominican American artist residing in Columbus, Ohio. Ariel is a muralist and graphic designer who makes it a point to blend technology with analogous art making methods. He most recently has been working with murals and augmented reality to host workshops and gallery experiences. Acquiring a BFA in Advertising & Graphic Design from the Columbus College of Art & Design and a minor in Fine Arts, he focuses on curating experiences and building engaging, interactive and unique campaigns around them.

Expertly versed in the Adobe Suites, he blends platforms to create the iconic visuals that brands need. Notable clients include Pepsi, Cash Explosion, Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Woodford Reserve and Abercrombie & Fitch. Born to two Dominican parents and immigrants to the US, Ariel has a unique perspective on what it means to be an American. There is a complicated dynamic that exists where the American-born child is raised in a family of majority immigrants. This is a theme that is constantly popping in Ariel’s work. Through the careful curation of events and symbols from his past that have imprinted onto his psyche, he uses his art to explore the impact this has had on his family, his relationships with significant others, friends, and colleagues.

NICHOLAS SCHUKAY

@schukayartistry

Rendering portraits is my passion, and a true portrait can display a life’s journey. Capturing a person’s life through an expression is my ambition, although I lacked the skill set in my younger years. Until my eleventh year, when I met a professional portrait artist: Bill Kufahl. Observing my natural ability, Kufahl decided to take me under his wing. In my thirteenth year, I accepted my first commission of a toddler with the deepest cobalt blue eyes. I still can recall such a deep sense of accomplishment that dawned my art career. For seven years I studied under Bill Kufahl, upon my eighteenth year I embarked into the art world with his knowledge/expertise.
