Zaftig Brew Pub, less than a month shy of celebrating its one-year anniversary, has established itself as a fun and energetic addition to the Short North Arts District. We spoke with manager Amber Fogel about the energy and atmosphere of Zaftig, their experience in the District so far, and what the future of Zaftig looks like.

How would you describe Zaftig’s energy and atmosphere?

We are an elevated-casual brew pub with a contemporary vibe. There’s a mixture of warmth and energy in our space, from live-edge wood tables and bar to our mural painted by local artist Gabrielle Woods (@gib.jpeg on Instagram). It’s a great place to stop in after work or on a weekend for to-go cocktails or beer, but also a great place to pick up or order a hearty dinner.

What has your experience in the Short North Arts District been like so far?

It’s been incredibly warm and welcoming! We have had amazing support to get our name in the mix of other amazing businesses in the area, and patrons from the area have had great, positive feedback from their visits.

What is Zaftig’s overall mission as a business, and what do you want your customers to gain from their experience?

As a brewery, Zaftig aims to produce the highest-rated premium product possible while never sacrificing quality. As a brew pub, we want to provide amazing food in a welcoming atmosphere that makes you want to come back for more. We hope that between our rotating/seasonal beer and food offerings, there’s always a reason to keep us on your list for the next time you choose to dine locally.

What are you most looking forward to for the future of Zaftig?

That we, local restaurants, and residents of this great city will only get stronger after this challenging year, that we’ll continue to grow our clientele, and that we’ll establish ourselves as one of the most enjoyable dining experiences in the area.

How is Zaftig providing a Short North Safe experience for guests?

Since we were permitted to reopen for inside dining, we continue to follow all required and recommended safety measures set forth by the ORA, CDC, and Ohio Department of Health, including face-covering requirements for guests and staff, social distancing inside, six feet or barriers between tables, sanitizing protocols, and signage. We remain committed to these actions to provide a safe, enjoyable experience.
