Artist: Kristen Mimms

Emergent Art + Craft

Parted: A Collection of Strands by Kristen Mimms Scavnicky will be featured at Emergent Art + Craft during May. This collection pairs meditation with drawing and painting in a culmination of therapeutic exploration through the artist’s mind synthesizing parted city-scapes, parted social dynamics, and even parted hair.

In addition to Mimms Scavnicky’s architectural design practice called MISC Partners, she founded Cocoa Bijou at the beginning of 2020 when she began to formally develop her artwork. Each of her practices share the focus of how the execution of the work can and should engage with the world as activists. Mimms Scavnicky’s work to-date features her meditative drawing process which has served as a journey to define a connection with her unknown African ancestry through creative expression.

For the Fashion is Art Gallery Hop, Emergent Art + Craft will feature an immersive installation created in collaboration by artist and designer Kristen Mimms Scavnicky and Dre McLeod.

Emergent Art + Craft’s May Gallery Hop hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Artist: Paul Hamilton

Hammond Harkins Galleries

Join Hammond Harkins Galleries for a landmark exhibition from a master painter of landscapes. States of Wonder: New Works by Paul Hamilton is the artist’s thirtieth solo exhibition of his career. In addition to his much sought-after landscapes, this new body of work includes another favorite genre of his: still lifes. While the landscapes capture moments at once dramatic and intimate, the still lifes express a minimalism both serene and contemplative. In each instance, Hamilton puts a contemporary spin on a classic genre and leaves room for wonder. Also on display will be a new landscape installation consisting of 54 panels. Painterly and abstract up close, the panels merge into a single, coherent image from a distance. It is a monumental work to be seen in person.

During the Fashion is Art Gallery Hop, Hammond Harkins Galleries will feature a collaboration between artists Melissa Vogley Woods and designer Xuena Pu. Vogley Woods’ scagliola is paired with Pu’s weavings to create new works that embrace the sculptural nature of each.
