March 2022 Gallery Hop – Saturday, March 5

Art lovers are invited to the Short North Arts District for Columbus’ favorite day of the month to celebrate art – Gallery Hop! Enjoy unique solo and group shows at Short North Arts District galleries throughout the day, special events at local businesses, plus street vendors and performers along High Street.

MARCH GALLERY HOP EXHIBITIONS

Artist: Jolene Powell

Brandt-Roberts Galleries

Brandt-Roberts Galleries is pleased to present a new body of work by Ohio artist Jolene Powell. In her new Solstice Series, she is embracing consciousness and a sense of the sacred to create a landscape that echoes change and the ethereal. “Jolene Powell: Peaks & Pinnacles” is on view through March 27.

Brandt-Roberts Galleries’ March Gallery Hop hours are 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Jolene will join Brandt-Roberts Galleries for Gallery Hop from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Emergent Art + Craft

“Colours from New Zealand to Ohio” runs from March 4 through 29 at Emergent Art + Craft, located at 14 E. Lincoln Street in the Short North. Graeme McCann was born in New Zealand and moved to the United States many years ago. The beautiful colors of New Zealand’s landscape influences all his pieces. A sculptor at heart, he has recently incorporated his love of texture into his paintings by adding layers of modeling paste to the canvas. “Colours from New Zealand to Ohio” represents his love of his former and current home.

Emergent Art + Craft’s March Gallery Hop hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. A reception will take place during Gallery Hop from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Hammond Harkins Galleries

“Selected Works” is Hammond Harkins Galleries’ 2022 winter exhibition. Works by 13 gallery artists in a variety of mediums are on display, ranging from the traditional to the unexpected. Artists include Andrea Myers, Laura Alexander, Andrew Hendrixson, Janice Lessman-Moss, Paul Hamilton, Carol Stewart, Pamela Workman, Denny Griffith, Linda Gall, Melissa Vogley Woods, Tim Brown, James Mason and Matthew Mohr. Stop in and see a selection of works from each of the participating artists and discover something special for the new year.

Sarah Gormley Gallery

On Saturday, March 5 during Gallery Hop, stop by Sarah Gormley Gallery to see the new exhibition “Nick Stull: Surfaces” and meet the artist. This body of work focuses on surface pre-occupation, both in the literal sense of the word, and in reference to the surface of water, a prominent theme featured in the pieces. Stull is a Columbus-based artist and designer specializing in murals, portraiture, painting, branding, design, and illustration. “Surfaces” will be on view through March 27.

Sarah Gormley Gallery’s March Gallery Hop hours are 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. Stull will be in attendance at the opening reception in the gallery during Gallery Hop from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Sean Christopher Gallery Ohio

The public is cordially invited to join Sean Christopher Gallery in celebrating its 20th anniversary during a public reception (free admission) on Saturday, March 5, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. during the March Gallery Hop. The exhibit will continue through March 26. Sean Christopher Gallery Ohio will feature “Concentration 14”, its annual group exhibition of select artworks by current Columbus Fort Hayes Arts and Academic High School AP Art Students (since 2009). This show is curated by Teresa Weidenbusch, Fort Hayes AP art teacher and Director of the school’s Shot Tower Gallery.

Sharon Weiss Gallery

Sharon Weiss Gallery presents Jeff Stahler’s recent watercolors and ‘Moderately Confused’ comic panel originals. Stahler’s work will be on view froM March 3 through March 28.

Sherrie Gallerie

See April Sunami’s “New People” at Sherrie Gallerie from March 5 through April 23. “The paintings in this exhibition are meant to articulate my hopes for humanity’s future rooted in love,” Sunami describes.

Studios on High Gallery

Studios on High Gallery presents “Hit the Hop,” the gallery’s annual, open call, juried exhibition open to Ohio artists. Now in its seventh year, this show provides a unique opportunity for Ohio artists to display their work in the Short North. A $300 first place, $175 second place and People’s Choice award will be announced March 6. “Hit the Hop” will be on view through March 31.

OTHER MARCH GALLERY HOP ACTIVITIES

Greater Columbus Convention Center

A colorful and artistic event, Jan Tana’s Bodypainting Revolution will return to the Arnold Sports Festival for a third straight year in 2022. This unique art exhibition and competition will take place in public view in the Expo Hall Booth #1201. Expo tickets must be purchased to enter the exhibit hall.

Artists will paint models, taking more than six hours to complete, in hopes to impress the judges, captivate photographers and delight audiences with breathtaking stage performances. Body painting artists will take you back to your favorite Arnold Movie with this year’s inspiring theme “Barbarians & Warriors”! Lesbians Benefiting the Arts is proud to host a diverse group of 15 local women artists for an art show to celebrate Women’s History, Black History and Transformation. The Art Show will open in Stonewall Columbus’ Owens & Kowalski Gallery on February 25 and run through April 2, 2022. Celebrating Transformation will showcase works focused on visibility and includes artists both new and seasoned including: Anya Nelson, Michelle Martinez, Lynda Zamora, Sheryl Lanzaby, Neena Marie, Mary Jane Quick, Jan Solari, Suzie Simpson, Helen Yee, Hoda Bagdady, Deborah Danzy, Molly Bobich, Carla Brown, Charlotte Belland and Lanelle Pace. Refreshments will be provided by Bake Me Happy, Olive and Lime, and Good Food Bakery. Entertainment will be provided by Wahru & Drummers and Made of the Mist.

The show may be viewed at other times by appointment or during Stonewall Center on High business hours. Selected works will be available for purchase. Craft vendors will have
items available for purchase during the 3 receptions.
