HOLIDAY HOP EVENTS
Window Display Contest
Known as the city’s creative center, the Short North Arts District is the place to see the best in artful, fun, and festive shop windows, and visitors to the District for this year’s Holiday Hop are invited to vote for their favorites! A $250 People’s Choice Award will be given to the public contest winner, and another $250 Judges’ Choice Award will be given out by guest judge panel; NBC4’s Monica Day, artist Joey Monsoon, the Greater Columbus Arts Council’s Jami Goldstein, and Zen Genius’ Joe Baer. Be sure to pick up and return your ballots at the Holiday Hop Hub at Victorian Gate to vote for People’s Choice!
Short North Arts District Tees
Give the gift any Short North Arts District fan would love, a custom-designed throwback tee made by HOMAGE! Tees are $35 and proceeds go back to support arts programming in the neighborhood. Pick them up at the Holiday Hop Hub at Victorian Gate, or buy it online here and have it shipped to your door.
Holiday Hop Pop-Up Shop
For shoppers who would like a little extra in terms of locally and handmade gifts for the season, be sure to stop by the historic Garden Theater from 12:00pm – 9:00pm for the annual Holiday Pop-Up Shop! With over 20 local vendors housed in the Garden this year, on top of the huge array of shops on and off High Street, the people on your list will never be happier.
After the Pop-Up wraps up, stick around for ‘Megan Palmer’s Triumphant Return!’ A renowned fiddler and singer with Ohio’s own Spikedrivers, Palmer will be accompanied by four of Columbus’ best loved Americana bands. Grab your tickets here!
For December Holiday Hop, Brandt-Roberts Galleries will present a special solo exhibition for celebrated Ohio impressionist Mark Gingerich. This exhibition, titled “Distinctive Impressions,” showcases Gingerich’s most recent body of work. Notably, the American Impressionist Society (AIS) recently invited Mark Gingerich to join as a Signature Member recognizing his inclusion in recent years to their selective annual exhibition.
Hammond Harkins Galleries is featuring Small and Wonderful from November 13-January 10. Stop in and discover the gift of art for the special people in your life.
Columbus artist Ashley Pierce returns to Lindsay Gallery for the month of December with her first exhibition featuring ceramics, in addition to her carved and painted wooden panels. An opening reception will be on Friday, December 4 from 6:00-9:00pm. Pierce has been pushing herself to do some larger scale work while still retaining the intimacy and introspection she is known for.
Little Fish Printing & Gallery
Little Fish Studios proudly presents #selfie, an exhibition featuring each studio artist’s visual interpretation of themselves, and those most important to them. Inspired by the selfie movement prevalent in social media, these masterpieces capture the personality behind the art and artists of Little Fish Studios. Opening reception will be on Saturday, December 5 from 6:00-9:00pm. The exhibition will be on view from December 5 through December 31.
Marcia Evans Gallery
From December 4 through January 10, Marcia Evans Gallery will be featuring the Holiday Salon Show, with existing and new gallery artists exhibiting smaller art perfect for holiday gifts. See paintings, sculpture, hand blown glass, ceramics, handmade jewelry, scarves and more.
The Pizzuti Collection
The Pizzuti Collection is open from 11:00am to 5:00pm for Gallery Hop. Now on view is US IS THEM, a powerful exhibition of art by a group of international artists whose work reflects issues of current affairs and social justice from the US and around the globe. Don’t miss this timely and potent exhibition.
Little Brother Dan Dougan presents The Art Stache: works from the collection of Dan Dougan, owner of now defunct Staches, a University District nightclub, and Little Brothers, former Short North music venue. The exhibition features local artists Rick Borg, Levent Isik, Wayne Kral, and Daniel Work plus select ethnographic work from South and Central America. Most work dates from the early to mid-1990s and is for sale. This is a rare opportunity to own part of two lost Columbus landmarks.
Rivet welcomes cartoonist and Gronk webcomic creator Katie Cook for a small works exhibition featuring her pop culture watercolors. Opening reception will be held Saturday, December 5 from 7:00-10:00pm with the exhibition on display through December 30. Rivet will also have an affordable small works, cash and carry wall for the month of December featuring multiple artists to help with your gift giving.
ROY G BIV
ROY G BIV Gallery partners with the Ohio Art League to present Small Works & Thumb Box, a special two-month exhibition of small and affordable artwork by member artists. This exhibition fills the gallery with a variety artwork in all styles and mediums. The work is on display at ROY G BIV Gallery from December 5 to January 30 (Closed December 23 to 30) at 997 N. High St. Hours are 1:00-6:00pm, Wednesdays through Sundays. Opening reception will be on Holiday Hop Saturday from 7:00-10:00pm.
Sean Christopher Gallery
Featuring Dana Lynn Harper: Sweet Spot, Sean Christopher Gallery Ohio presents mixed media sculpture and installation from December 5, 2015- January 30, 2016. Holiday Hop opening reception will be on December 5 from 6:00-10:00pm.
Sharon Weiss Gallery
Rick Akers will be featuring his 18th show at Sharon Weiss Gallery, My Appalachia. This show features heavy impasto paintings all created with a palette knife. Artist reception on Friday, December 4 from 6:00-8:00pm.

Studios on High
For Holiday Hop, Studios on High Gallery members create treasures on a small scale for holiday gifting. Their show, Small Treasures, will be on display from November 1 through December 31.
Local artist, Jason Kincaid, will be at Big Fun Columbus. “Dave Buker & The Historians” will perform at Holiday Hop from 7:00-9:00pm.
Denmark on High
Artist Robert Metzger will be at Denmark on High during the month of December. Robert focuses on the photographic construct and samples an array of original, self-appropriated photos and videos and abstracts this imagery into amorphous photoscapes – illusionistic works that exhibit dual indeterminacy of both form and content, but express an ardent longing for far-off places, that are not particularly recognized.
First Commonwealth Bank
First Commonwealth Bank will be featuring artist Joel Machina for the month of December. Stop by from 5:00-8:00pm on Holiday Hop to enjoy artwork from Joel and light refreshments.
Evan Wolff will be featuring a collection of paintings at House Beer.
Mallory Lane Salon & Gallery
For the December Holiday Hop Mallory Lane Salon and Gallery is excited to premiere a new Artist Showcase for local artist, Brent McMurry.
You are invited to an opening of new works by artist Linda Apple, the first art gallery owner in the Short North. Come enjoy Linda’s work and meet with the artist on Friday, December 4 from 6:00-9:00pm or on Saturday, December 5 from 4:00-7:00pm at Stonewall Columbus.
Wexner Center for the Arts
Join the Wexner Center for the Arts for Zoom: Family Film Festival from December 3 through December 5. Zoom is Columbus’s only annual celebration of family entertainment from around the world. Enjoy fresh and engaging films for all ages, plus free activities— the morning cereal and pajama party, an ice cream social, and more.
GALLERY HOP EVENTS
Stop by Global Gifts during Holiday Hop in December and have fun shopping their large selection of fair trade woolens from Bolivia, Peru, and Nepal. Enjoy fair trade coffee, hot cocoa, and baked good samples, and sign up to win their monthly drawing! This month they are offering a holiday collection including Fair Trade soaps, a music CD, and a recycled metal wall hanging made in India.
Laughlin’s Bakery will be featuring its full Christmas menu for Holiday Hop, including its legendary gingerbread and Moravian sugar cake. Other European holiday classics will be available including Stollen, Lebkuchen, Springerle, Linzer tarts and Zimtsternen. Holiday cookie boxes in a custom collector’s tin will also be available for preorder. Laughlin’s Bakery will be open from 8:00am-9:00pm with live Christmas caroling from 5:00-7:00pm.
Skully’s Music Diner
Get Right with DJ Giovanny at Skully’s Music-Diner on Gallery Hop Saturday. Doors open at 10:00pm and the event is 21+. No cover until 10:30, $5.00 from 10:30pm-12:30am, $10 cover from 12:30am-2:00am.
