With dozens of galleries and non-traditional exhibit spaces, it’s Columbus’ favorite night of the month to celebrate art. Hop til you drop this Saturday, November 3 and check out the amazing new artwork exhibiting at galleries and businesses all month long. See the full Gallery & Art Guide Here.

Hammond Harkins Galleries
Hammond Harkins Galleries will continue to feature To Dream Avant-Garde, curated by Alteronce Gumby.

To dream avant-garde is to dream radically, without limitations of the mind, to imagine what has not been seen and dwell in the presence of nouveau. As an acknowledgement to those innovators, who were also dreamers of an American identity and country to call their own, the artists in this exhibition display a survey of ideas, intention and materials that invoke the legacy and culture of Harlem. In reflection of the Harlem Renaissance, contemporary artists Derek Fordjour, Aaron Fowler, Hugh Hayden, Lucia Hierro, Leslie Jimenez, Eric Mack, Faith Ringgold, Tschabalala Self, Tariku Shiferaw and Dave Shrobe will present works engaging with the theme to dream avant-garde.

A spoken word event, including poets Yarima Karama and Tripp Fontaine, will take place as part of the exhibit during Gallery Hop. The event is free and open to the public. The exhibition will be on view through November 11.

Lindsay Gallery
Lindsay Gallery will feature paintings by Paul Patton.

Patton (1921-1999) grew up in the tiny Muskingum County village of Rix Mills, Ohio. It was a place where kids walked to a one room schoolhouse, worked in the fields and spent their playtime outdoors in the beautiful Appalachian foothills. Patton went on to be a B-17 pilot in WWII and had a long career in education. When he went back to Rix Mills in 1985 he discovered that the countryside he loved had been dramatically changed by strip mining. The hill against which his village nestled had been entirely stripped away. Fearing that the way of life he knew would be forgotten, Patton began putting his memories on canvas. With no formal training, he produced over 500 paintings that so touchingly capture a time and place gone by, that they are an artistic and historical treasure.

The exhibit will open on Sunday, November 4, with a reception from 3:00-5:00pm. The event is free and open to the public.

Marcia Evans Gallery

Mario is an internationally accomplished artist.
